Tag Activation

PieceMakers/TAG ACTIVATION Travel to an active set of train-tracks alone. You must take with you five coins in your current country’s currency. Ideally you will have a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter, and either some other coin (fifty cent piece, etc) or a repeat. You must place these coins on the rails of the train-tracks. Center them and make sure to pay attention to where you put them in case you stray too far. As the train passes you and runs over the coins they usually bounce off right next to where they were placed. Sometimes they wedge themselves in the rocks or very rarely shoot out further. Make sure to pay attention when you are laying down your coins as cops and more importantly trains can sneak up on you. Dog Tags

\*The tags are not in opposition to soldier’s tags. They are not locked into that contrast, it’s merely one posture. One constellation to illuminate another aspect. No disrespect intended to soldiers. They get to make whatever meaning out of their tags and their own experience. But the system, tags in the assembly line of the military apparatus. Yes, it’s war. Soldiers go off to fight distant wars and wear tags worn for essentially one reason, so that their bodies can be identified if they are found dead. These tags indicate that death is the corollary of war; there is no war without death much like there is no money without debt; but the implication of my tags for the war they represent is not death but transgression, and the beginning transcendence. It is a war that starts within.

The Indians of Tres Esquinas rubber station valued coins not as a means of exchange but as precious objects-in-themselves-or almost-so-in-themselves, because first they had to work them over, not being content with their form in the white economy. They would beat the coins into smooth, shiny triangles to wear as nose rings or as ear pendants”. Even the metal making the coins isn’t real silver, etc anymore. We can further and further away. Alchemy. The process of purification. Testing your “metal”. tags are like people, similar experiences, pressure, turn out different results. Include small card with tags mailed. You are not a minted coin.
